About the Devotion
It was in 1948 that Redemptorist Missionaries began the Novena in honor of Our Mother of Perpetual Help at Baclaran. At first, there were very few attended until its widespread growth among the Catholic faithful all over the Philippines.
Currently, it is estimated that 150,000 devotees attend the Novena every week to pray for requests and offer thanksgiving to the Lord our God through the Blessed Mother.
The Feast Day of Our Mother of Perpetual Help is June 27.
You can pray this Novena every Wednesday or every First Wednesday or any day of your preference for nine (9) days.
For the Feast of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, the starting date of Novena is June 18 which is 9 days before the Feast Day.
Testimony
It was one Wednesday in 2011 that one of my friends invited us to attend a Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help to ask for guidance in our upcoming subjects in Accounting. We agreed. From then on, we continued our devotion. Every Wednesday, despite our school schedule, we managed to complete our week with Novena to Inay.
Our Mother of Perpetual Help has a special space in my heart. She and Lord Jesus guided me to achieve what I am now and continue to guide me in this life’s journey. I am now a Certified Public Accountant for almost 7 years now and in God’s will and with the help of the Blessed Mother, find my vocation in life to serve Him.
Until now, I attend the Novena in the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help or also known as the Baclaran Church. In there, I find comfort, I am loved and I feel at home.
Novena Prayer to Our Mother of Perpetual Help
Day 1
Dear Mother of Perpetual Help from the cross Jesus gave you to us for our Mother. You are the kindest, the most loving of all mothers. Look tenderly on us your children as we now ask you to help us in all our needs especially this one (Pause to recall your petitions).
While you were on earth, dear Mother you willingly shared in the sufferings of your Son. Strengthened by your faith and confidence in the fatherly love of God you accepted the mysterious designs of His Will.
We, too, have our crosses and trials. Sometimes they almost crush us to the ground. Dearest Mother, share with us your abundant faith and confidence in God. Make us aware that God never ceases to love us; that He answers all our prayers in the way that is best for us. Strengthen our hearts to carry the cross in the footsteps of your Divine Son. Help us to realize that he who shares the cross of Christ will certainly share His resurrection.
Dearest Mother, as we worry about our own problems let us not forget the needs of others. You always love others so much; help us to do the same. While praying for our own intentions and for the intentions of all here present at this Novena we earnestly ask you, our Mother to help us comfort the sick and the dying, give hope to the poor and unemployed, heal the broken-hearted, walk in solidarity with the oppressed, teach justice to their oppressors, and bring back to God all those who have offended Him.
